This article is a set of instructions to help you set up your PT-JOY-G2.

Please note this article is for setup of the second generation IP joystick only. if you have the third generation joystick please use the instructions HERE.

SECTION 1: Equipment

Making sure you have the right equipment for the job is always the first step in any use of electronics.  What follows is a list of needed equipment:

  1. The joystick itself. It can be seen HERE. If this is not the joystick you have you may be working with another product. (Please note: this joystick is used for network control and not a direct connection to the cameras. If you need a direct connection you may want to look into our serial joystick found HERE.)
  2. A PTZ optics camera. (Please note other manufacturers cameras may work with this joystick but for this article, we will be just using our cameras)
  3. A network to connect the camera (s) and the joystick to. This can be as simple as an unmanaged switch or router or an already in place network. (Please note: the cameras and the joystick must be on the same subnet)
  4. A Cat cable (ethernet cable) to connect everything to your network. In most cases, cat5E will work perfectly well for this setup so there is no need to use any higher grade cable unless your environment requires it.
  5. A computer for the setup of these cameras. (again this is just needed for setup and can be removed later if needed)

SECTION 2: Make sure your cameras are set up correctly to work with the joystick.

In order to allow the connection between the joystick and the cameras, you first have to make sure that the cameras are connected up to your network and on the IP range of that network. Below are the setup options.

SETUP ONE: This setup is for one camera you are controlling with this joystick and you are using it with a switch (managed or unmanaged.) You can leave it on its default static IP address and proceed down to "SETUP TWO" below and perform steps 1-5, then proceed down to "SECTION 3, SETUP ONE".

SETUP TWO: This setup is for setting up multiple cameras on an independent switch (managed or unmanaged) for purposes of control (not for IP video).  (If you are coming from SETUP ONE above please follow instructions 1-5)

  1. Set up these cameras one at a time to make life easier. You want to make sure that only the camera you are currently setting up is powered on. Make sure all the cameras and your computer are currently plugged into your switch.
  2. Now disconnect from your wifi or any other network you are connected to (if connected) and go to the Network and Sharing center as seen below. Click the option "Change adapter settings" as highlighted..
  3. Right click either "Local Area Connection" or "Ethernet" as seen in picture below. Then click properties.
  4. That opens "Local Area Connection Properties" as seen below. Select the option " Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" as highlighted in pic three below and click on properties.
  5. This will open "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties" as seen in below. Change the option  to "Use the following IP address" and fill in the network information as seen below, and click OK. (If you are coming from "SETUP ONE" above please proceed down to "SECTION 3, SETUP ONE" below.)
  6. (The following instructions will be repeated for every camera) Open any web browser and put in the IP address 192.168.100.88. This should open a login window. The username and password are admin .
  7. Go to the "Network" section of this interface as seen below. You can address the cameras in any network range you wish as this is an unmanaged switch. 192.168.100.xx range is recommended as this is the range we will be using. Change the last octet of the IP address to any number between 1 and 254 excluding 89 as we used that for the PC.
  8. After the address is set, click "Apply" and go to the "System" tab and click "reboot" .
  9. Repeat instructions 6 to 8 until all cameras are addressed and proceed down to "SECTION 3, SETUP ONE"

SETUP THREE: This setup is for one or multiple cameras that are set up with the joystick on your normal network (LAN) and is by far the easiest setup.

  1. You need to set up your cameras on your network by plugging them into your router or on a switch that is set up on said network. If you need help with this process please refer to the article HERE for a beginners setup guide and use the tool found HERE for easy setup.
  2. Once you have set up the cameras on the network using the beginner's guide and the tool linked above proceed to "SECTION 3", "SETUP TWO"

SECTION 3: Setting up your joystick on a network, adding the cameras to the joystick, and setting up quick keys on the joystick to connect to the cameras.

SETUP ONE: This goes over how to set up your camera (s) on the joystick if you are connected to a switch (managed or unmanaged) that is not connected to your normal network (LAN). You should follow these instructions if you followed "SETUP ONE or SETUP TWO" in "SECTION 2" above.

  1. Make sure that your computer, and camera (s) are powered on and connected to your switch and still on the network range you chose (this was done in "SECTION 2, SETUP TWO, Instructions 1-5 above)
  2. Make sure your joystick is connected to this switch and powered on.
  3. On the joystick, press the "Setup" button, and scroll down to the section option which should be "DHCP". Go to the right to change this to "Static" and press Enter.
  4. The first section should ask you for an IP address. For this example, we will set it to 192.168.100.90 and press enter (if you set one of your cameras to the address, make the 90 an open IP address.
  5. It will ask for the subnet mask. Make this 255.255.255.0 and press Enter.
  6. It will ask for the gateway. Make this 192.168.100.1 and press Enter. The joystick will then restart.
  7. Once the joystick has rebooted, open a browser and put in the address 192.168.100.90. This will bring you to a log in window the user name is admin and there is no password.
  8. Once you have logged in you get to the page seen below. Hit the search button that is highlighted in pic one below.
  9. When the search is completed, this should populate the first green column as seen below. Select each IP address one at a time, click the "Add" button then the "Save" button as seen in below.
  10. When each of the cameras is added to the blue middle column, determine which camera will be camera one (1) and select it. Change the field marked as "address" from a 0 to a 1 and click Save.. This should change the [0] next to the IP address in the middle column as seen  below to a [1]. Repeat this process for each camera numbering them as desired.
  11. You should now be able to press any of the "Cam" buttons (cam 1 through 4) and the joystick should connect to the camera selected allowing you to control that camera.
  12. Go to the "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties" menu (from SECTION ONE, SETUP 2, instruction 5) and change the "Use the following IP address" and change it to "Obtain an IP address automatically" as seen below.
  13. Close all the menus, disconnect the computer from your switch, enable your computer's normal network, and setup is complete.
  14. if you run into any issues or need help please contact [email protected].

SETUP TWO: this setup is for the clients that are connecting the cameras and joystick to their normal network (LAN)

  1. make sure that your computer, and camera (s) are powered on and connected to your network and on the same network range.
  2. make sure your camera is connected to this network and powered up. this joystick is set on DHCP by default and should display the joysticks current IP address. if not hit the "setup" and go to the third option which should be this address.
  3. enter this address into a browser and this should bring you to the login window. the username is admin and there is no password.
  4. once you have logged in you get to the page seen below in pic 1 below. once on this page hit the search button that is highlighted in pic one below.
  5. once the search is completed this should populate the first green column as seen in pic two below. now select each IP address one at a time and hit the add button then the save button as seen in pic 2 below.
  6.   once each of the cameras is added to the blue middle column figure out which camera will be camera one and select it. now change the field marked as "address" from a 0 to a 1 and hit the save button. this should change the [0] next to the IP address in the middle column as seen in pic 3 below to a [1]. now repeat this process for each camera making them the camera number you want them to be.
  7.  once this has been completed you should be able to press any of the "cam" buttons (cam 1 through 4) and the joystick should connect to the camera you selected and you should be able to control that camera.at
  8. at this point you should be good to go. if you are having any issues or require any assistance please contact [email protected].
