If, when setting up your HC-Joy (serial joystick) with your gen 2 cameras, you are having issues daisy chaining with RS-232 please follow the following the steps.
STEP 1: Make sure you have the correct wiring for this setup.
- The first cable you will need is the DB-9 to 8-pin mini din cable included with your camera and joystick. (seen below)
This cable is used between the joystick and the FIRST camera in the daisy chain. the pinout for this cable is seen below.
- The second cable is an optional cable used to extend the connection from the joystick. This is a DB9 Male - DB9 Female. using pins 2, 3, &5 (seen below)
This cable is again optional and only needs to be used if a longer distance is needed between the joystick and camera.
- The next cable is used to daisy chain the cameras together. This is a Visca-Cascade-8pin-Mini-Din Male to Male.
This cable is used between the cameras in the daisy chain. below is the pinout for this cable.
STEP 2: Make sure you have all the cables connected correctly
- Connect the DB-9 to 8-pin mini din cable included with your camera to the back of the joystick (seen below.)
- Connect the 8-pin mini din to the "in" RS232 port of the first camera (seen below.)
- Connect the Visca-Cascade-8pin-Mini-Din Male to Male to the out port of camera 1 (seen below.)
- Connect the other end of the VISCA Cascade to the "in" RS232 port of camera 2 (seen below.)
- If you had more than 2 cameras you would repeat the process with any camera after this. See below for the finished product.
STEP 3: Make sure that all the settings on the joystick are correct. The example shows 2, but additional would be done the same way.
- The picture below shows the settings of the joystick on camera 1. The picture shows the joystick is using the VISCA protocol for control at a baud rate of 9600.
- The picture below shows the settings for camera 2 on your joystick. please notice that these settings are the same as the ones for camera 1. VISCA protocol at a 9600 baud rate.
STEP 4: Make sure the settings of your cameras are correct.
- For camera one, you want to hit the menu button on your IR remote.
If you do not have the IR remote around or not at all you can access the OSD on the IP interface as seen below.
By changing the drop down seen above from "PTZ" to OSD.
- Next go down to where it says "Communication Setup" seen in the below picture.
- Go into the "Communication Setup" option in the main menu and press the center home button. to enter this menu. Below you will see the settings for the first camera in the daisy chain.
For the first camera, make sure the protocol is set to VISCA and that the Baud Rate is set to 9600 (which is default). You want to change the setting labeled "Net Mode" from "Paral" and change it to "Serial" seen in the image below.
Make sure when you are using RS-232 as your wiring type that the "Net Mode" setting for all the cameras should be set to "Serial"
- You want to make sure to change the settings of all the following cameras in the daisy chain to match the image below.
Make sure that all the cameras are set to VISCA and 9600 and the cameras "Net Mode" to "Serial". The setting V_address fix should be set to "On". the V_address is which camera this camera is in the daisy chain. For this example the above image is set to V_address "2" meaning that this is camera two in the daisy chain. For the setting for later cameras, give it the corresponding number, so the next camera in the chain would be camera 3 and have a V_address of 3 and the one after that would be camera 4 with a V_address of 4.
STEP 5: Exit the cameras menu's and power cycle the cameras to make sure the settings are fully initialized. After all these steps, your joystick should be functioning as intended.
If your joystick is not working correctly go through the previous steps and make sure the camera is setup correctly.
